Airport Launches New Public Comments Website
Thanks to public pressure, and with encouragement from the Board of Supervisors, Napa County Airport has officially launched a new website for community feedback to propose to the FAA an optional flight approach that would reduce aircraft noise and pollution. The website includes a timeline for community input (now) and a 140-character comments section that you can chip in on. We encourage your participation! Registration is quick and easy.
We are hopeful that this is the start of a genuine effort to engage with residents to find a solution and not a typical “going through the motions” activity. It is imperative that the process not pit neighborhoods against each other while officials wash their hands of a problem that shouldn’t exist in the first place. Please be respectful, thoughtful and honest when you fill in comments.
In a survey of 10 similar county airports, Napa County Airport ranked last with Monterey for impacted community participation in Noise Working Groups. Monterey fell under grand jury investigation. We will feel more confident in Napa County’s process if it opens up its airport Noise Working Group to impacted residents who are not beholden to aviation, as was recommended by the Airport Advisory Commission but never acted on.
